    Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday

    Beginning with a Morning Program, in which about 800 people will gather at De La Guerra Plaza, downtown Santa Barbara, including local and state officials. The day will open with a prayer. Following will be celebratory speakers, gospel singing and dancing by World Dance for Humanity.

    The program will end with a “Unity March” from De La Guerra Plaza to the historic Arlington Theatre. An inspirational program of celebration at the Arlington will include film clips, vocalists, and winning entries of the all-schools (public and independent) Essay and Poetry Contest, will be read. Dance by the Santa Barbara Dance Institute with students from the Santa Barbara middle school.

    “The Great Debaters”

    Based on the true story of a young professor of an all-black college in 1935 Marshall, Texas, we are able to experience history as first-hand observers of a little-known event that was foundational to the civil rights movement.
